I am interested in the relative nature of perspective. I was raised in a strict religious family and was confident in my viewpoint. Over time, this confidence was slowly eroded away by the contradictions between my beliefs and my experiences. I have moved away from my upbringing to a perspective with a point of view that does not hold to an absolute position. Because of this, I have felt a sense of incompleteness in what I encounter, never getting of the whole sense of what I run across. My work explores the fragmented nature of perspective, which, due to our limitations, there is always something hidden in what we observe.
My interest is of what can be conveyed with the human form. My work deals with aspects of how the body is perceived both physically and emotionally. I use expressive and abstract techniques to exaggerate, distort, and obscure the forms, suggesting a sense of an incomplete vision to deconstruct perception and explore the emotional range that can be conveyed using the human figure.
BIOGRAPHY
I was raised in a family where religion was the primary concern, also, the largest source of turmoil. Eventually, I lost the faith of my family and had to search for new beliefs. These new beliefs are built from my experiences and my reactions to these events. I have become attuned to the fact that no one has a firm grasp on truth. There may be no single perspective to stand above the others as the proper vision.
I am intrigued by the murk that this creates and I am searching out areas to explore this in my work. I am inspired by this vagueness of vision and incompleteness of understanding. I am currently painting works that focus on human form and perception.
I was born and raised just outside of Sacramento, California and now live and work in San Francisco, California. I have studied fine arts receiving a BA in studio arts and a MFA in painting.
